Chandra Bhattacharjee Chandra Bhattacharjee, born in 1961, studied at the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship, Kolkata. He received a gold medal from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, in 1986. Bhattacharjee’s compositions are influenced by rural and tribal themes, because of his associations with tribal communities like the ’Santhal’ tribe of Kolkata. The textural quality of his paintings is strongly reminiscent of the traditional mud walls of these villages. He has held several group as well as solo exhibitions of his works in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, as well as International exhibitions in South Korea, Singapore, Tokyo, Toronto and New York. His collections are held in Chandigarh Museum; Park Sheraton; Chennai Essar Group; Indian Oil; Citibank; Hoechst India and other private and corporate collections in India and abroad.
