BALAJI THEERTHAM,uses ancient techniques of kalamkari to work on themes like Buddha, Jesus Christ and scenes from Indian village back grounds by using natural dyes on the cotton cloth.BALAJI THEERTHAM got the prestigeous ‘National Award’ for the year 1992 from the Honorable President of India at the young age of 26 years. He was fascinated with line drawings on the slate and making of clay toys, etc. Understanding his interest in the art, his father made him learn Kalamkari art under the supervision of Late Sri S. Rambhoji Naik, National Awardee, Balaji took nearly 10 years training from his kalamkari teacher besides his higher education. During the period of training he got lot of exposure in making different shades of natural colours using plants, leaves and flowers and also got special exposure on temple architecture.
